Time to unpack those holiday boxes and break out the lights, tinsel and ornaments. Before you dive into trimming your tree, make sure you follow these basic safety tips! They will help keep your tree bright and cheerful all season long!
Tree Placement: Think twice before placing your tree in the empty corner right by the fireplace. It may look like the perfect winter display but take preventative measures so your tree does not go up in flames. Even artificial “Fire Resistant” trees can still be dangerous, so take precaution. In addition, be sure keep trees clear of heating ducts and radiators, as well.
Real Trees: If you opt for the traditional look and smell of a real tree, there are a few tips to keep in mind. Pick a tree with sturdy limbs and pine needles that aren’t falling off with every touch. Take good care of your tree by keeping it thoroughly watered and trimming it properly.
Lights: Give your lights a careful inspection before tossing them on the tree. Look for broken wires or cracked sockets. If you find a strand that isn’t up to par, it is best to toss it and start fresh.
Ornaments: Refrain from hanging ornaments and tinsel where small children or pets can break them, especially ones made of glass. You wouldn’t want your dog to break your great-great-grandma’s treasured angel ornament that has been passed down for generations!
